The new research data suggests that if everyone in the UK swapped just one more meat-meal to a plant-based alternative per week, it would cut the UK's greenhouse gases by 45 million tonnes.

MAX CHANNON & NEIL SHAW: ‘Every family in the UK ditching meat of one meal a week would have the same environmental impact as taking 16 million cars off the road, a new study claims. The new data released today suggests that if everyone in the UK swapped just one more red-meat meal to a plant-based alternative per week, it would cut the UK’s greenhouse gases by 45 million tonnes. The data, which The Meatless Farm Co says was analysed “by a leading scientist”, shows that 42% of UK adults are already looking to increase the number of meat-free meals they consume per week.

‘The Meatless Consumption Target’ aims to get households across the UK to challenge their regular red-meat diets and make one more weekly swap by 2021. With the rise of meat-free alternatives, 41% say they’ve eaten meat-free dishes and meals in pubs and restaurants too. The Vegan society says the demand for meat-free food increased by 987% in 2017 and going vegan was predicted to be the biggest food trend in 2018. Vegan ‘trend’ quadrupled in the 5 years between 2012 and 2017, according to Google search. It now gets almost 3 times more interest than vegetarian and gluten free searches’. SOURCE…
