Not surprisingly, immediate online reactions ignited increasingly common debates over the consumption of animal products, from concerns about forcing vegetarianism on children, to calls to remove dairy as well. Not only do Meatless Mondays teach children about food, but also about the impact of their food choices. Every day, it seems, science shines more light on the alarming connection between animal agriculture and climate chaos: not only the production of greenhouse gas emissions, but also unsustainable water and land usage, and major loss of wildlife and biodiversity. It’s high time future generations learn what they are up against, and what they can do about it. And dropping meat for two meals a week is a great place to start…

New York City is not alone in their transition to meat-free meals in schools. In California last month, the Healthy Climate-Friendly School Lunch Act was introduced, which would provide incentives to schools that offer more plant-based menu items. Plant-based meals are already common in many California schools, including in the Santa Barbara Unified School District, where at least half of meals served are reportedly vegan’. SOURCE…
