Plant-Based Entrées Missing In 45 Out Of 100 U.S. Restaurant Chains

The annual scorecard from the Good Food Institute (GFI) analyzes restaurants based on their plant-based meals and how they market these entrées on a scale of zero to 10.

LANA BANDOIM: ‘The Good Food Institute’s second annual restaurant scorecard reveals that 45 out of the top 100 U.S. restaurant chains do not have a plant-based entrée. However, Jamba Juice, White Castle, Panera, Chipotle and others are making progress by increasing the number of vegetarian or vegan options for customers.

The annual scorecard from the Good Food Institute (GFI) analyzes restaurants based on their plant-based meals and how they market these entrées on a scale of zero to 10. GFI focuses on the top 100 U.S. restaurant chains. “With 32% of all U.S. restaurant sales coming from just 100 restaurant brands, these companies have the greatest opportunity to capitalize on the plant-based opportunity,” GFI explained.

On the 2018 scorecard, Jamba Juice and White Castle have the highest scores with 9 for breakfast and 9 for lunch/dinner. Panera Bread comes in second place with 8.5 points for breakfast and 9 points for lunch/dinner. It is followed by Yard House with a score of 8.5 for lunch/dinner. Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Dunkin’ Donuts, Einstein Bros. Bagels Golden Corral, Maggiano’s Little Italy, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Olive Garden, Sheetz, Starbucks Coffee, Tim Hortons and Wawa are in a tie for fourth place with 8 points’. SOURCE…
